“Those naughty monkeys are back, and this time they’re
tormenting their baby-sitter. . . The simple and colorful pen-and-ink
and gouache artwork will be familiar to readers of Christelow’s
earlier books about these mischievous animals. . . A delightful choice
for a group setting or for one-on-one sharing.” —School

| The Story: |
“Where
are those monkeys?
Where did they go?
Where are they hiding?
I really don’t know!”
The Five Little Monkeys are supposed to go to bed... But when Mama’s
out dancing and Lulu is the babysitter, there’s always time for a game
of hide-and-seek... and then another, and another... until those monkeys
discover the ultimate hiding place. Lulu is frantic; where can they be? Read
the book! You’ll find out.

| Where did you get the idea?: |
When I was 6 or 7, I
lived in a Washington DC neighborhood filled with kids. We spent
long summer evenings playing hide-and-seek all over the neighborhood.
Monkey fans have been asking for another book. What so kids do
almost as much jumping on the bed? They play hide-and seek!
I had one version of the book sitting around for a couple of years. But the story
just didn’t work. When I added a NEW character, Lulu the babysitter, the
story finally came together.

The Illustrations:
The drawings were done on vellum with a pen with a flexible steel
point. I photocopied the drawings onto Fabriano hot press watercolor
paper and painted the color with acrylic gouache made by Holbein
and by Jo Sonja.
